Revelstoke Mountain Resort
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is located on the Trans Canada Highway and is 102 kms east of Salmon Arm and is 1 hour and 10 minute drive from Lakeview Haven. Their ski hill is AMAZING; the terrain is steep and the powder is deep! Revelstoke is located between the Monashee Mountains and Selkirk Ranges and has some of the most spectacular scenery in the province. This is a very doable day trip from Lakeview Haven both in the winter and the summer. There are loads of hiking/mountain biking trails to explore in the summer and if you’re a skier or a “sled-head” their mountains are epic. The shops and restaurants in the town centre are incredible too. The ski resort is a 10 minute drive from the centre of Revelstoke City.
Sun Peaks Resort is located 56 kms northeast of Kamloops and is a 2 hour drive from Salmon Arm. This mountain is where we grew up skiing as both of us are originally from Merritt B.C. For the first 8 years we resided in Salmon Arm, we drove to Sun Peaks almost every weekend to ski (until Revelstoke opened up). Sun Peaks is a beautiful resort and is extremely family friendly. The village is gorgeous and the activities in winter (skiing, snowshoeing, skate/cross country skiing) and summer (golf, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking & trail running) are plentiful. It is also a wonderful day trip to make from Lakeview Haven if you want to get your “outdoor enthusiast” on.
SilverStar Mountain Resort
SilverStar Mountain Resort is 22 kms northeast of Vernon and is located in the Shuswap Highland of the Monashee Mountains. This is the closest ski hill of the the three as it only takes 1 hour to get there. Fun Fact: many of the runs are named after old silver mining claims. This is a very family friendly resort with loads of activities in both the summer and winter. Tube Town and the skating pond are a wonderful family activity to do together in the evening if skiing is not your jam. In the summer months (mid-June to early September) SilverStar Mountain Resort turns into one of Canada’s largest downhill and cross-country bike parks.
Sledding Mecca of BC
For those of you who are fortunate enough to know about this hidden gem where we live, you will also know that snowmobiling is a BIG DEAL in our area. Alberta invades the Colombia/Shuswap area each winter as we have some of the best sledding territory in BC! Owlhead Mountain, Eagles Pass, Blue Lake Mountain, Queest Mountain, Fly Hills, Spa Hills and Boulder Mountain are just some of the excellent sledding areas available to snowmobile enthusiasts. For more information on Sledding in our area follow this link: www.sledsicamous.com
Snowshoeing, Hiking & Biking
The trail system in our area is outstanding. We have a local organization that maintains and builds trails for all of our enjoyment called the Shuswap Trail Alliance. Visit www.shuswaptrailalliance.com to access a plethora of information and trail guides they have downloaded for your pleasure. You may also drive down to our local Chamber of Commerce and pick up a number of maps and information on tourism in the Shuswap.
Larch Hills Nordic Society
Larch Hills is a cross-country ski area 20 km from Salmon Arm and is home to some of BC’s finest trails. With over 170 kms of ski trails, 57 kms of which are regularly groomed, plus a further 17 kms of snowshoe trails there is no shortage of variety for the outdoor enthusiast.
We are in the heart of the Shuswap and that means access to loads of lakes and beaches! Fishing, boating, sunbathing and swimming is literally just down the road from Lakeview Haven. Come see what our bodies of water have to offer. Check out www.shuswaptourism.ca
Shuswap Lake (the lake you see from our property) boasts a shoreline of approx 1000 kms, is 309 square kilometres and is home to 2 major houseboat rental companies. The town of Sicamous is 20 minutes east of Salmon Arm. Sicamous is located Shuswap Lake and is the “houseboating capital of Canada”. For more information about an incredible way to explore our lake and book a trip on a houseboat check out Twin Anchors Houseboats (www.twinanchors.com) or Waterway Houseboats(www.waterwayhouseboats.com)
Another fun way to see the incredible scenery on our lake is to rent a ski boat or pontoon boat for the day. Sea-Dog Rentals 250-804-4708, Captain’s Cove Marina 250-832-5224, or Pirate Pontoon Rentals 250-540-5956 are a good place to start to see what’s available. There are many more options in Blind Bay and Sicamous if you google “shuswap boat rentals”.
Floating the Shuswap River in Enderby
This by far is one of our very favourite summer activities! It’s relaxing, the scenery is gorgeous, it’s not overpopulated with people, the river has a sandy bottom, it not too deep and did I mention….FUN. You will require some sort of inflatable floating apparatus, a ziplock storage bag (for car keys) and a small cooler (tied onto it’s own floating device and then attached your floating device) and a second vehicle (to shuttle from drop-in, to exit point). If you don’t have a second vehicle you can easily walk between the two hand-launches, it’s about a 20 minute walk. The river is located in Enderby which is a 15 minute drive from Salmon Arm. If you pull into Enderby and go to the tourist information booth they can give you directions on where to start and end your float. The most popular float start/end is Belvidere Park to Tuey Park (otherwise knows as Waterwheel Park). It’s 2.5 kms and can take anywhere from half an hour in the early summer to two hours in the late summer. It’s a very scenic route with few obstacles. By late summer you can easily walk the whole float. If you plan to drink alcohol on the river I will caution you….the local police patrol the river on jet skis and in boats. They do not hesitate to approach you and ask question and see what is in your cooler. They also closely patrol the highways. It is recommended that you pack snacks and/or lunch, non-breakable containers for drinks and water, a hat and sunscreen. Please take everything off the river that you started with, the river runs through and around private acreages and properties. It’s important we continually respect the beauty that mother nature provides us. This float is very family friendly however, it’s advisable to have children in certified PFD’s. The safest time to float the rive is from July 1st – Aug 31st. For more detailed information about floating the Shuwap River go to www.explorethemap.com
This activity is offered just below Mable Lake or on the Adams River. Check out www.paddleshuswap.com

It is called Uptown Askews and is about a 5 minute drive from Lakeview Haven and is located just up the hill from where you are staying.
